Design Philosophy
At its core, The Canyon embraces the transformative power of culture, fostering inclusivity, creativity, and social connection. The design merges Tartu’s historical richness with contemporary innovation, focusing on sustainability and adaptability to align with the city’s 2030 vision. The library serves as a hub where learning, community, and environment harmoniously coexist.
The Canyon’s design integrates expansive reading and studio areas, fluid interiors, and three prominent apertures that connect the library to its urban surroundings. A shaded northwest corner and native flora promote sustainability, filtering rainwater and reducing heat.
The iconic internal canyon offers an inviting, dynamic space, uniting architecture and culture for Tartu’s residents and visitors alike.
